HI!

I’m Laura, a 26-year-old graphic designer with a passion for designing in the entertainment industry.

Currently working as an Assistant Designer at Sport Casuals International, I am constantly learning useful skills within the fashion industry whilst connecting with peers who have had many years of experience. This allows me to constantly work with crucial business and design programs throughout my week.

Aside from the 9-5, I volunteer with the organization HALSUG, as a Graphic Design Lead. This brand is focused on shining a light to underground/indie artists within the music industry. Working with them has allowed me to take a first step in the industry and build relationships with others who are in the field.

On my spare time, I create my own designs for album covers, magazine spreads, and posters for various artists that interest me. Due to a busy schedule, I don’t get to create as much as I’d like, but soon enough I’ll have a a complete portfolio of designs to showcase companies.

Why the entertainment industry?

During my academic years at University, I went through a period of exploration and self-discovery. Despite the diverse range of design branches taught, including UX Design, Book Cover Design, Infographics, and Editorial Design,I always found myself gravitating back to the world of posters, social media posts, concert merchandise, and everything lively and colorful. It was in this niche where my creativity truly flourished.

Due to most agencies in my area preferring the clean, simple, and basic aesthetics when it comes to designing, I found it difficult to quickly land a job. But I firmly believe that in order to produce exceptional work, you need to have a genuine passion for what you create. This unwavering commitment to my unique style sets me apart as a designer who's not afraid to bring a burst of color and energy to their projects. Since I had grown up surrounded by music and the performing arts, I decided to gear my designs towards that same industry.

After discovering the K-Pop genre, I was inspired by how complex and creative the design aspect was. From the concepts for each artist comeback to the album design including pieces such as photo cards, posters, film strips, photo books, & stickers. It was a vision I had never came across before. I have never seen so much creativity go into a project. It inspired and motivated me to research the process that goes into designing for the K-Pop scene and what would be the requirements to get hired at a company. Since then I’ve had the privilege of living abroad in Seoul, South Korea for 7 months after graduation to experience the culture first-hand as well as visit the large music companies and build connections with those around me. I learned so much and have grown as a person and designer because of that time.
